ENGLISH FOR ACADEMIC STUDY MODULES
Overview
The following 5-credit modules will be available to all registered students undertaking programmes of study at UCC, whose first language is not English. However, places are limited and will be prioritised, on a first come first served basis, for Erasmus (and other visiting) students, and ‘resident’ students whose UCC ‘home department’ has explicitly listed one of these two modules in advance as a core or elective module in their 60-credit workload. Places, if available, will be offered only subject to successful completion of an assessment (administered by the Language Centre) to ensure that each student's English is of the standard required to successfully complete the module.
Erasmus/visiting students may include the 5-credit module within their 60-credit prescribed workload for the year, but only if (and after) they have been accepted by the UCC Language Centre. Any students, other than the prioritised groups mentioned above, registered for UCC programmes of study can take these modules only outside their prescribed-credit workload for the year for their chosen programme, and only if accepted by UCC Language Centre. Students wishing to select these modules should ensure that there is no conflict with the timetable for their main programme of study. There will be no fee applicable for any UCC students placed/accepted on these courses.
Note: LC1002 and LC1003 will run during Semester 1 and will be offered again in Semester 2.
Note: Attendance at, and examination in, these modules will be recorded on the student transcript. These modules will not contribute to the final degree award for UCC programmes of study, unless they have already been explicitly listed in advance as core or elective modules by a UCC ‘home department’ (in a full programme of study at UCC).
Students wishing to register for these modules should contact the b.mcenery@ucc.ie in the first instance, at the earliest possible opportunity.
