MCh (Surgical Science)

Overview

The MCh in Surgical Science is available on a part-time basis over two years (24 months) and on a full-time basis over one year (12 months)

The part-time MCh in Surgical Science runs over two calendar years from the date of first registration for the programme. The full-time MCh in Surgical Science runs over one calendar year from the date of first registration for the programme. We do however recommend that those opting for the full-time option are not in full-time employment. Students on both take taught modules to the value of 90 credits, incorporating a blended learning approach with significant use of online learning resources. Contact teaching sessions are scheduled three times per year (November, January and March) and occur on Friday evenings and Saturdays in the Brookfield Health Sciences complex in UCC. These can be attended remotely where the students are overseas, opting for fully online participation.

Exit award: Postgraduate Certificate in Surgical Science

Students who pass 30 credits, within the part-time or full-time options of the programme, may choose to exit the programme with an award of a Postgraduate Certificate in Surgical Science (NFQ Level 9, Minor Award).

Exit award: Postgraduate Diploma in Surgical Science

Students who pass 60 credits in Years 1 and 2 of the part-time option within the programme, or 60 credits of the full-time one-year option within the programme, may choose to exit the programme with an award of a Postgraduate Diploma in Surgical Science (NFQ Level 9, Major Award).
