This Postgraduate Certificate is an alternative non-professional exit award for candidates in Year 1 of the Master of Social Work or Postgraduate Diploma in Social Work Studies programme who pass at least 30 credits in Year 1 but have but have failed to reach the pass standard for the Year 1 placement module (SS6112), or who decide not to continue with their professional training in the MSW/PDSWS programme.
Candidates who opt to exit and graduate with Postgraduate Certificate in Applied Social Studies will not be eligible to apply to register with the Social Work Registration Board (CORU).

Programme Learning Outcomes for Postgraduate Certificate in Applied Social Studies (NFQ Level 8, Major Award)
On successful completion of this programme, students should be able to:
- Demonstrate knowledge of social systems and human behaviour to promote social change, problem solving in human relationships and the empowerment of people to enhance their well-being;
- Demonstrate knowledge of social policy to critically examine and respond to the impact of social and political contexts
