In addition to the general regulations for passing the year, students must pass AS1502 or AS1503 (10 credits). Students experiencing irreconcilable timetable conflicts that prevent them from attending AS2010 must opt for the 10-credit option.

Students who have not taken Japanese in Year 1 may take it as a new subject in Year 2, subject to timetable constraints.

Subject to having completed a total of 25 credits of Japanese in Years 1 and 2, students may spend either two semesters studying at a partner institution in Japan, or one semester in Japan (study at partner institution) and one semester in a country of a second language studied in Years 1 and 2 (study at partner institution or work placement). All courses taken during Year 3 will be assessed by the approved Host University. Please note that a work placement in Japan will not initially be available.

Students who have taken AS1500 and AS1501 in Year 2 may take Japanese as a 20-credit Subject or as a 10-credit Subject in Year 4, subject to timetable constraints.

Students may take Japanese as an advanced 20-credit Subject in Year 4 on condition that they have the prerequisite for AS3008, namely a significant standard of Japanese Language (assessed before entry), and would normally be expected to have made good progress having spent Year 3 studying at a Japanese university.

In addition to the general regulations for passing the year, students must pass AS1503 or AS1504.

Students who have not taken Japanese in Year 1 or Year 2 may take it as a new subject in Year 4, subject to timetable constraints.

On successful completion of this programme, students should be able to:
