Programme Learning Outcomes for MA in Applied Linguistics (NFQ Level 9, Major Award)
On successful completion of this programme, students should be able to:
- Examine and analyse language at different levels of linguistic analysis in relation to the phonetics and phonology of language systems, the morphology and syntax of language systems, and pragmatics;
- Discuss theoretical approaches to the study of language from an applied perspective;
- Discuss language issues relating to different branches of applied linguistics;
- Discuss concepts of language teaching and learning and aspects of acquisition theory and practice;
- Understand the approaches and methods typically used in applied linguistics research
- Design and execute a substantial piece of original applied linguistics research
