There are eight pathways to choose from which will be phased in over the first four years of the Programme.
Pathway 1 – Computed Tomography (CT)
Pathway 2 – Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
Pathway 3 – Ultrasound (Obstetrics and Gynaecology)
Pathway 4 – Image Interpretation
Pathway 5 – Advanced Practice
Pathway 6 – Radiation Therapy
Pathway 7 – Management and Leadership
Pathway 8 – Radiation Protection
Pathway 9 – Mammography
Exit Awards
Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences
Upon successful completion of modules to the value of 30 credits, students may opt not to proceed with the programme and exit with a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences (NFQ Level 9, Minor Award).
Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences
Upon successful completion of modules to the value of 60 credits, students may opt not to proceed with the programme and exit with a Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences (NFQ Level 9, Major Award).

Programme Learning Outcomes for MSc (Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences) (NFQ Level 9, Major Award)
On successful completion of this programme, students should be able to:
- Demonstrate the professional attributes, leadership and clinical skills required to undertake competent advanced clinical imaging/treatment practices in various clinical settings relevant to the student.
- Demonstrate an ongoing commitment to the professional and caring values which underpin a safe and high-quality clinical service.
- Critically evaluate the audit findings and clinical and academic evidence to enhance the organisation and management of patient care in various diagnostic imaging and radiation therapy contexts.
- Demonstrate the ability to evaluate and respond professionally to complex and changing clinical situations.
- Apply in-depth knowledge and critical understanding of key clinical and professional issues in diagnostic radiography/radiation therapy and apply clinical leadership and independent professional practice commensurate with a clinical specialist radiographer.
- Critically evaluate original research sources and their contribution to the evidence base of clinical practice.
- Synthesise an understanding of the ethical and confidentiality rules governing the professional practice of diagnostic radiography/radiation therapy to comply with all relevant professional statutory and regulatory body standards and processes that maintain these standards.
- Critically evaluate ongoing personal and professional development via the theory and practice of CPD.
- To evidence a self-reflective approach to professional practice decision-making and be responsive to the needs of service users.
- Apply a holistic approach to developing professional competencies within the multi-professional environment to become a safe reflective, advancing practitioner.
