Overview
The Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Leadership is a part-time programme running for 12 months from the date of first registration for the programme.
Application and Transfer to the MEd (NFQ Level 9, Major Award)
For candidates who satisfactorily meet the entry requirements of the MEd, and have achieved at least a Second Class Honours grade in the Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Leadership, an exemption of 60 credits of the taught element of the MEd programme will be granted. However, the remaining 60 credits of the MEd programme must include the compulsory dissertation of 30 credits.

Programme Learning Outcomes
Programme Learning Outcomes for Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Leadership (NFQ Level 9, Major Award)
On successful completion of this programme, students should be able to:
- Critique the Irish educational system and the importance of leadership and management practices therein.
- Demonstrate insights into the knowledge, skills and values associated with leadership and specifically those associated with educational leadership.
- Evaluate different styles of leadership, both national and international, as set against participants’ specific context and theoretical studies.
- Discuss the implications of educational change/reform and evaluate their impact on their organisations and on each of the partners involved in their wider organisational communities.
- Demonstrate research skills associated with educational leadership including effective evidence-based decision making.
- Practise leadership, with explicit consideration of mentoring and coaching.
- Demonstrate emergent postgraduate level proficiency in the fundamentals of educational leadership, policy development and evaluation, and contemporary issues in education.
