PX3001 Professional Work Experience (CACSSS)
PX3001 Professional Work Experience (CACSSS) is a university accredited professional work experience module that allows CACSSS students to explore and develop their career interests. The optional module may be taken in any year of the undergraduate degree. Preparatory training is offered by UCC Career Services and will include advice on interview skills and CV writing.
PX3001 is available to all CK101 students and undergraduate students in other participating degree programmes that do not have formal work placements. Students can participate in PX3001 in any year of their degree programme.
Students will arrange professional work experience or an internship with a minimum of 70 hours of engagement in the workplace. This work experience can be paid or unpaid, and can occur in a variety of professional work areas, within or outside of Ireland. The module is assessed by an academic mentor through an e-portfolio that records and reflects on the work experience.
Students will participate in a series of workshops to prepare for the workplace experience. They will have the support of an Academic Mentor from their own area of studies. Students will also require a mentor within the workplace. UCC Careers Office will help students produce a professional CV and prepare for the job interview.
PX3001 is a 5 credit module which is not included for progression to the subsequent year and is not counted toward the final degree award. The result obtained in PX3001 will be recorded on the student's transcript. This module is designed to prepare students for transition to the workplace on graduation. This module allows students to explore their interest in a particular area of professional employment, while also acquiring experience and skills that will support their career development.
Employers are now seeking graduates with high levels of literacy and digital competence, who are adaptable to different workplace environments. CACSSS graduates are well placed to meet many key attributes required by employers, such as:
