The BA (Hons) in Economics is a three-year degree programme.

To be eligible for the award of the BA (Hons) in Economics, a student will be required to have achieved 180 credits by obtaining 60 credits in each of Years 1, 2 and 3. A student may not register for more than 60 credits in one year.

BA (Hons) (Economics) (International) Pathway

The BA (Hons) (Economics) (International) Pathway is a four-year programme which enables students to study abroad for a year in an approved University outside Ireland.

BA (Hons) (Economics) (Work Placement) Pathway

The BA (Hons) (Economics) (Work Placement) Pathway is a four-year programme which enables students to go on a 6-month UCC-approved work placement.

First Year - Economics

In First Year students take Economics (45 credits) together with one other subject (15 credits) from those listed below.

  • Group 1: Asian Studies, Computer Science, History, Portuguese
  • Group 2(a): History of Art
  • Group 2(b): Applied Mathematics, European Studies, Folklore, Greek and Roman Civilisation, Gaeilge/Irish
  • Group 3: Archaeology, Chinese Studies, German, Latin, Mathematics, Mathematical Studies, Politics
  • Group 4: French, Sociology, Studies in Music
  • Group 6(a): Geography, Italian
  • Group 6(b): Celtic Civilisation, Philosophy, Spanish

Students may not select modules which involve a timetable clash.

Second Year - Economics

No student may register for Second Year until he/she has passed the First University Examination in Economics.

In Second Year students take a Single Subject Degree consisting of modules to the value of 60 credits in Economics.

Students who wish to take the four-year option with a year abroad must register for the BA (Economics) (International) Pathway at the beginning of Second Year.

Students who wish to take the four-year option with a work placement must register for the BA (Hons) (Economics) (Work Placement) Pathway at the beginning of Second Year.

Third Year - Economics

No student may register for Third Year until he/she has passed the Second University Examination in Economics. Students may not select modules which involve a timetable clash.

In Third Year students take a Single Subject Degree consisting of modules to the value of 60 credits in Economics.
