BA (Hons) (Economics) (Work Placement) Pathway

Overview

The BA (Hons) in Economics (Work Placement) Pathway is a four-year, full-time honours degree programme which enables students on the BA (Hons) (Economics) degree programme to go on a 6-month UCC-approved work placement.

The BA (Hons) in Economics is being phased out and replaced by the BSC (Hons) in Applied Economics. Students who entered the programme prior to 2024/25 and are required subsequently to repeat one or more modules in a repeat year may be required to study new material (not previously covered) in the repeat year, as part or whole substitution for the module(s) failed.

First Year - Economics

First Year is only offered to students who did not progress to Second Year in 2024/25.

In First Year students take Economics (45 credits) together with one other subject (15 credits) as part of the BA (Hons) (Economics).

Second Year - Economics (Work Placement) Pathway

Students who wish to take the BA (Hons) (Economics) (Work Placement) Pathway register for the pathway at the beginning of Second Year. No student may register for Second Year until they have passed the First University Examination in Economics.

In Second Year students take a Single Subject Degree consisting of modules to the value of 60 credits in Economics. Students follow the same curriculum as students taking Second Year of the BA (Hons) (Economics).

Third Year - Economics (Work Placement) Pathway

No student may register for Third Year until they have passed the Second University Examination. Students completing Third Year of the BA (Hons) (Economics) (Work Placement) Pathway will take modules to the value of 60 credits in Economics, including either a Work Placement or a Research Project. The taught modules will take place from September to December. Students cannot take modules that involve a timetable clash. The placement/research project will run from January to June.

Fourth Year - Economics (Work Placement) Pathway

No student may register for Fourth Year of the BA (Hons) (Economics) (Work Placement) Pathway until they have passed the Third University Examination in Economics (Work Placement) Pathway.
