Overview
The MA in Irish Traditional Music may be taken full-time over 12 months or part-time over 24 months from the date of first registration for the programme.
Part-time: The part-time option will be taught during weekday working hours over two years. The course structure for part-time students is subject to agreement with the Department of Music.
Postgraduate Diploma in Irish Traditional Music (NFQ Level 9, Major Award)
Candidates who pass at least 60 credits of taught modules may elect to exit the programme and be awarded a Postgraduate Diploma in Irish Traditional Music.

On successful completion of this programme, students should be able to:
- Demonstrate a critical understanding of multi-disciplinary scholarship in Irish Traditional Music and related areas;
- Critically engage with research and discourse on the history and evolution of Irish Traditional Music;
- Develop improved skills in musical performance and creativity within the idiom of Irish Traditional Music;
- Identify and develop key transferrable professional skills through a range of relevant elective modules;
- Demonstrate improved skills in written and oral presentation of discipline-specific concepts and methods (Diploma students);
- Successfully undertake an independent research dissertation, or creative practice project (Master’s students).
