MSc (International Public Policy and Diplomacy)
Overview
The MSc (International Public Policy and Diplomacy) may be taken full-time over 12 months or part-time over 24 months from the date of first registration for the programme. The taught element of the programme runs from early September to the end of March.
From early April to the end of August, students will either undertake a Work-based Dissertation in International Public Policy and Diplomacy (GV6013) or a Research Dissertation in International Public Policy and Diplomacy (GV6014) to the value of 30 credits. The dissertation is submitted in September. Those undertaking a Work-based Dissertation in International Public Policy and Diplomacy (GV6013) must also submit a Placement Practice Report.
Postgraduate Diploma in International Public Policy and Diplomacy (NFQ Level 9, Major Award)
Students who successfully achieve the pass standard in Part I may opt not to proceed to Part II and may opt instead to be awarded the Postgraduate Diploma in International Public Policy and Diplomacy. Students who pass all taught modules in Part I (60 credits) and who fail the dissertation or fail to submit the dissertation will exit with a Postgraduate Diploma in International Public Policy and Diplomacy.

The class size for LW6606 is capped at 30, with students of the LLM IHR given precedence as the module is compulsory on the LLM IHR programme. If space permits students of the MSc IPPD programme to register for the module, this will be facilitated on a 'first come; first serve' basis until the maximum class size of 30 is reached.

Programme Learning Outcomes for MSc in International Public Policy and Diplomacy (NFQ Level 9, Major Award)
On successful completion of this programme, students should be able to:
- Describe and critically analyse contemporary global policy challenges and the contemporary global policy-making environment, including international organisations and international law;
- Identify and assess the impact of global policy challenges and global policymaking processes on national governments;
- Produce policy-oriented analysis and recommendations;
- Show awareness of social science research methods and their applicability to policy analysis;
- Demonstrate the skills necessary to work in a policy-oriented international environment (e.g., synthesis, analysis and evaluation; report writing; oral presentation skills; leadership; negotiation skills);
- Either demonstrate experience of having worked in a policy-oriented international environment; or demonstrate the ability to undertake sustained independent policy-oriented research on an international issue.
