Candidates on the MA (Modern Irish) programme who pass at least 60 credits of taught modules may elect to exit the programme and be awarded a Postgraduate Diploma in Modern Irish.

Programme Learning Outcomes for the Postgraduate Diploma in Modern Irish (NFQ Level 9, Major Award)
On successful completion of this programme, students should be able to:
- Assess a broad range of literature in its historical context;
- Express themselves with confidence in the written language using different registers and specialised vocabularies;
- Appreciate the nuances of literary discourse with particular reference to Irish-language poetry and prose;
- Engage with the rich lexicon of the Irish tradition and with its various forms of expression;
- Distinguish between the salient features of the principal dialects of the modern language and to accurately express themselves in one of them;
- Decipher unpublished Irish-language manuscript material in its original form.
